Slipped Disc and Sciatica Therapy in Toa Payoh and Jurong East
Do You Experience Any of the Following?
Numbness
A common symptom associated with disc-related problems is the numbing sensation at various parts of the body.
Sciatica
Also known as nerve root pain, sciatica is caused by inflammation or pressure on the nerves often in the leg, calf or foot.
Pain
Pain in the neck, back, shoulder blade or arms/fingers/legs/toes can be a signal that you have a spinal disc problem.
Weakness
Having leg/arm weakness or noticing of your muscles shrinking can be a more serious sign of spinal nerve root compression.
Tingling Sensations
Tingling or pins and needles type sensations are often early signs of spinal nerve compression.
Intense Lower Back Pain
Sometimes intense and lasting lower back pain can be misdiagnosed as a muscle or “vein” problem.
If your answer is yes to any of the above, you may have a slipped disc or disc bulge.
What Is a Slipped Disc or Disc Bulge, and What Causes It?
A slipped disc, also known as a disc bulge or prolapse, occurs when the outer ring of the spine becomes so weak that the inner portion is allowed to “slip out”.
There are several possible causes that can place increased pressure on your spine. These include:
- Degeneration of spine with age
- Physical injuries due to falls or other accidents
- Being overweight
- Physically demanding activities such as moving/lifting objects
- Weight-bearing sports
Among the various possibilities, slipped discs can also be the result of degenerative changes. People often mistake this for an ageing problem. Although it is a common scenario, degenerative changes are not normal. As a person degenerates, water content in his or her spinal discs decreases, making them less flexible and more likely to split apart.
Regardless of age, succumbing to any of the above factors can put you at an increased risk of getting a slipped disc.
Available Methods of Therapy in Singapore
There are many methods of therapy available in the market, but how effective are they?
Many methods of therapy available in the market (i.e. massage, acupuncture, physiotherapy, herbs and traditional Chinese medicine) do not address the root of the problem, which is often found at the innermost centre of the spine. While they may offer relief, it is only temporary.
The same goes for medication and jabs. These methods may even do more harm as the problem is not addressed immediately. This leaves the patient’s condition to worsen over time, even though the pain may seem to go away.

Often times yes! With the special equipment at Advanced Pain Centres designed exactly for this condition we can target the area and often alleviate pain and help the disc tissue to heal.
Many of our patients are able to avoid surgical procedures when undergoing care in our centres.
Will I need X-RAYs, MRI, or any other tests?
There are many types of injuries that can occur to the spine. By far the most common issues we see at Advanced Pain Centres stem from some form of degenerative change. This can also be called arthritis or degenerative joint disease. A very common problem to happen to the spine as it absorbs a lot of stress on a daily basis. Gravity and body weight play a role in this as does previous injuries, poor posture over a long period of time and even things like having flat feet.
The tough part about this condition is that usually it goes undetected for years and can often times not exhibit many symptoms until it reaches a later stage.

At Advanced Pain Centres, the consultation fees are standard.
The initial assessment fee includes one therapy*.
